Application Note 143: Selection Guide UMD KA Series Keycaps - Overview
This Selection Guide details the range of KA series keycaps available from UMD.

Introduction
The UMD KA Series of keycaps, are designed to suite the Cherry MX series of key switch modules, as used on UMD Custom keyboards. These modules use standard 19.05mm (3/4") centre spacing.
The KA series keycaps are available in 3 sizes, 1 x 1, 1 x 2 and 2 x 2 module sizes. User legendable keycaps have removable lenses allowing them to accommodate paper inserts.
Both double (1x2) and quad (2x2) keycaps use 19.05mm spacing between keyswitch stem supports. This enable keycaps to be positioned over two or four keyswitch modules. This is ideally suited to custom keyboards, where keycaps need to be positioned anywhere within a keyboard matrix.
The keycaps can be identified by Model Numbers (for identificiation) or Part Numbers (for ordering).

Model Number format: KAmm(o)-ccc-sss where
- mm = Keycap module size
- (o) = Option
- ccc = Keycap frame colour
- sss = Symbol Code
Part Number Details
All keycaps are identified by a unique semi-significant 9 digit part number of the following format:
Keycap Part Number: 1-5ffb-sss-x where:
- ff = Colour Code of frame
- b = Keycap module size
- sss = Symbol Code
- x = Checkdigit
